The fossilized ivory used for this pendant is fossilized mammoth ivory that is tens of thousands of years old. It lay buried in the permafrost until it became exposed from erosion. Since mammoths went extinct thousands of years ago, fossilized mammoth ivory is a finite material and prized for the soft cream color that makes it ideal for fine jewelry.
